Paladino's Stink


Don't live in New York State? Be glad. In a survey NY ranked at the bottom of the list for happiness.

And really be happy that you're not on the mailing list for GOP gubernatorial candidate Carl Paladino.

As I mentioned in a previous post, Paladino wants to revamp closed state prisons into education camps for welfare clients where they can learn new job skills and, just as importantly, good personal hygiene. For we all know that social services clients don't know how to bathe.

Apparently Paladino is on a roll with the bad smell motif because he recently sent out a mailer with the message, SOMETHING STINKS IN ALBANY. And to back up his point, the enclosed material gives off an unpleasant odor.

Paladino says he wants to clean up Albany, not with a broom but "with a baseball bat." Great. Al Capone's management style will really fix all the problems.

Need I add that Paladino is a Tea Party favorite?

Sometimes it seems like the Tea Party forget that their eponymous historical incident was merely protest and not actually governing. And then there's times when they make it clear that's all they have in mind.

Back in the old days "tea party" meant something else. Maybe the Tea Party should tea party and mellow out.

Fortean Three: North Country Odd Events They say bad things happen in a series of three. Looks like odd events can follow that pattern. Recently the North Country – the corner of New York State where I live, hinterlands bordered by Canada and Lake Champlain – has popped up in the news of the weird and extraordinary. Someone saw a black panther in the Lake Placid area. Not an indigenous critter in these parts. According to an article in the Lake Placid News dated 4/24/08, Tsermaa Plumley thought she heard a bear prowling around their property on Schaefer Road in Keene. Her husband Dan investigated to see what kind of animal was in the compost. They were surprised to see a large alien black cat (or ABC to use the Fortean abbreviation).
